Attendance
Auto Dialer
When a student is marked absent for any reason during the school day, a phone call and/or email will be generated automatically to the parent or guardian, using the numbers provided during registration, notifying the parent of the absence. Please use this call as a reminder to clear any absence with a note or phone call. If student was marked absent incorrectly for a period the student should address the teacher the following day to have it cleared if an error was made.
Reporting Absences
Please telephone (562) 594-9793 to report a student’s absences, or send a written note to school with your child upon their return. All notes or absences must be cleared within (5) school days of the absence.
Readmission After Absence
Following each absence, the student should bring a note to the attendance box located on the counter in the front office. A written note is required to have:
-
Absent pupil’s full name
-
Date of absences
-
Reason
-

Legally Excused Absences -- Per E.C. 48205
• Personal illness:
District policy: The district will allow three (3) consecutive days (or the equivalent number of periods) of “all day” illness without doctor’s verification. Absences after that will be recorded as unexcused. If the student surpasses the three day (3) limit or if illness absences seem to be pattern-based, a doctor’s verification note must be provided to the school. Thus whenever you have a doctor’s verification (note), it should be submitted.
• Quarantine under the direction of a health officer.
• Personal medical, dental, optometric or chiropractic appointment.
Parent/guardian must provide doctor’s verification to the school or the absence is unexcused.
• Funeral services for a member of the immediate family
(limited to one day within the state of California, and three days out of state).
*** As defined by the California Education Code.

Permission to Leave School
No student may leave school during the day unless he/she has obtained a signed permit. Any violation of this rule shall be classified as truancy and willful defiance, for which a consequence may be assigned. To obtain an Early Out Permit, the student must present a written request before school starts containing the following information:
-
Date
-
Student’s name
-
Reason for leaving
-
Time to be released (allow 5 minutes transition from class to front of school).
-
Signature from parent / guardian with phone number for verification.
Early Out notes must be brought to the attendance counter before school.
In the instance of no signed parent note, an unplanned or forgotten appointment, the parent must sign the student out in person by coming to the office first before we can request the student to leave class.
**If possible please do not request your child to be released during their PE or lunch period without first having your student come to the office with a requested early out note before school starts. Because of the nature of these periods, students may be more difficult or impossible to locate.
Tardy Policies
Students have until 9:00 a.m. to arrive to their first period classroom. Students, who arrive to school at any time after 9:00 a.m., must report to the Attendance Office immediately upon arrival. Tardiness not only has a negative effect on the learning of the student who is late, but it also interferes with the learning of other students. School begins at 8:55 and students should arrive on campus by 8:50. Multiple tardies will result in a consequence and can affect a student’s conduct grade.
